Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed heartfelt condolences to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday following a devastating hotel fire at the Kartalkaya Ski Resort in Bolu, northern Türkiye. The blaze, which broke out in the early hours of Tuesday, claimed the lives of 78 people and left 51 others injured, sending shockwaves across the region.

In a phone conversation with President Erdogan, Prime Minister Sharif conveyed deep sorrow on behalf of Pakistan. “The entire Pakistani nation is grieved by this tragic incident,” said Sharif, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Türkiye, Yousaf Junaid, visited the affected site in Bolu province to express solidarity. Meeting with officials from Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and Governor Okay Memis, Junaid highlighted the historic partnership between the two nations.
“Our hearts beat as one,” said Junaid, “Pakistan and Türkiye have always stood together in times of joy and sorrow. The entire Pakistani nation shares the grief of this tragedy.”
Global Condolences Pour In
In addition to Pakistan, Japan also extended condolences to Türkiye. Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya sent a message to his Turkish counterpart, expressing deep sorrow and wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.

The fire erupted before dawn at the Kartalkaya Ski Resort Hotel, spreading rapidly and trapping many inside. Health Minister Kemal Memisoglu reported that 17 of the injured have since been discharged, with one individual remaining in intensive care.
